It would have been some line-up available to Posh in the Championship last season, especially if the few good loan players had also been persuaded to stay.
Here’s an all-star Posh squad from players let go during that period with the only proviso being they are still active now. It’s fair to say the games would have been high-scoring!
Starting XI has been picked in a 3-4-3 formation.

5. GWION EDWARDS
Sold to Ipswich for an undisclosed fee after 74 Posh appearances (16 goals) between June 2016 and June 2018. Edwards would have racked up even more impressive figures if he hadn't picked up a couple of serious injuries during his time at London Road. Edwards, who is a wing-back in this line-up, moved to Ipswich, then of the Championship, and he's now back in the second tier with League One champions Wigan for whom he played 43 times last season. 6. HARRY TOFFOLO
7 loan appearances for Posh, January 2016-June 2016. The only time this left-sided defender hasn't been outstanding in his career was the seven games he played while on loan at London Road. Manager Graham Westley signed him, but didn't appear to rate his defensive duties so didn't always play him. Toffolo had previously been a dashing attacking wing-back for Swindon and went to do the same at Lincoln City. He's now the star man at Huddersfield who could win promotion to the Premier League this weekend. Photo: Joe Dent

7. LEO DA SILVA LOPES
Sold to Wigan for £1 million after 108 Posh appearances (4 goals) between April 2015 and June 2018. This youth team graduate midfielder never won the Posh fans over completely so the fee the club eventually received from Wigan was seen as some of transfer guru Barry Fry's best work at London Road! He started just 2 games at Wigan, but after a loan spell at Gillingham and a season at Hull City in the Championship he now finds himself at Belgian First Division side Cercle Bruges. Da Silva Lopes is still only 23. Photo: Joe Dent

8. JOE NEWELL
Sold to Rotherham for an undisclosed fee after 109 Posh appearances (4 goals) between April 2011 and August 2015. Another Academy graduate who wasn't universally loved at London Road, but he's enjoyed a strong career since leaving including Championship seasons with Rotherham and over 100 appearances in the Scottish Premier League with Hibernian.
