A perfect time then to grade the players for their performances and efforts so far this season. It’s fair to say ‘must do better’ applies to many. Players must have made five League One appearances to qualify for a grade.
Grading key: A: Outstanding, B: Very Good. C: Steady. D: Poor, E: Very disappointing.

9. CIAN HAYES - C+
His grading has improved in the last couple of weeks thanks to strong displays in two of his first three starts following a summer arrival. A dynamic and direct winger which is never a bad thing. It will probably get tougher now he has lost the element of surprise, but it was a formidable task to replace Poku and he's done well. Photo: x

10. RICKY-JADE JONES - B
The Academy graduate has certainly improved this term to become a far more complete striker. The centre-forward is making better runs, finishing more of his chances and his speed is terrifying. Still weak in the air for a big man though. Might get a better offer and leave soon though. Appeared in every League One game so far this season. Photo: s

11. JADEL KATONGO - C
A stop-start season for the Manchester City loanee, but he will doubtless go on to do a sound job when playing regularly as a full-back or a centre-back. Photo: Pete Norton

12. HECTOR KYPRIANOU - C-
The classy central midfielder wasn’t at his best before picking up an injury that sidelined him for two months. He’s back now, and has supplied some very creative passes eveb though he remains well short of his best, and rapid improvement can be expected. Photo: Pete Norton
