As at 6pm yesterday (August 7) League One clubs had made 57 signings since the end of last season with only potential big hitters Charlton Athletic, Ipswich Town and Wigan Athletic yet to bring in any new players.
Wigan’s relegation has been confirmed after an appeal against a 12-point deduction failed.
It was thought clubs would rush out to sign players so they don’t get included in the £2.5 million salary cap that was introduced by third tier clubs yesterday (August 7).
Blackpool and Bristol Rovers lead the way on new signings with six apiece, followed by 5-Lincoln City, 4-Hull City, Plymouth Argyle, 3-AFC Wimbledon, Burton Albion, Crewe Alexandra, MK Dons, Shrewsbury Town; 2-Accrington Stanley, Fleetwood Town, Gillingham, Northampton Town, Oxford United, Sunderland; 1-Doncaster Rovers, Posh, Portsmouth, Rochdale, Swindon Town.
Posh have signed only goalkeeper Dan Gyollai so far this summer.
Former Posh players Jack Baldwin, Michael Bostwick and Alex Woodyard are among those to join rival League One clubs, but are they among the best signings of the summer?
Here are the top 12 according to the PT. Happily for Posh it was a struggle to find a dozen good ones.
1.
MAX EHMER (BRISTOL ROVERS): One of the few centre-backs to tame Posh star Ivan Toney at London Road last season when a Gillingham player. He's 28 so at the peak of his powers and he came highly recommended by former Posh star Gaby Zakuani who played alongside the German at the Gills. If another ex-Poshie Jack Baldwin finds his best form Rovers could have a decent centre-back pairing. Photo: Midlands
2.
MICHAEL BOSTWICK (BURTON ALBION): He's 32 now, but the x-Posh defender is still strong enough to ruffle a few feathers at League One level. A victim of Lincoln City's cost-cutting and 'the Imps' will surely be worse off without him. Photo: Midlands
3.
OFFRANDE ZANZALA (CREWE): Not a striker whose presence against Posh on the field has ever been a concern, but included as Crewe boss Dave Artell reckons Zanzala had one of the best goals per minute played ratios in League One last season when he scored eight goals for Accrington Stanley. 4.
CALLUM CAMPS (FLEETWOOD TOWN): Posh bid £400k for him last summer, but he wanted to play in the Championship when his time at Rochdale came to an end. Instead the gifted midfielder will be playing in front of one of the smallest crowds in League One.
