His arrival started us thinking about other Posh defensive loan signings and here we’ve compiled a list of the best and the worst complete with a performance-based mark out of 10.
We’ve discounted anyone who went on to sign permanently for Posh so a passing mention only to top loan signings Tom Williams and Mark Little.
13. LEWIN NYATANGA
Posh boss Gary Johnson decided his defence needed shoring up in November, 2010 so he signed a strapping centre-back on loan from Cardiff City. Posh shipped 10 goals in the three games Nyatanga played including five in a home defeat at the hands of Charlton. He went on to play solidly for Barnsley and Northampton before calling it a day. Posh rating 1/10.
14. HARRY TOFFOLO
Posh boss Graham Westley signed Toffolo on loan from Norwich City to replace Elder in January, 2016. It seemed like a superb move as Toffolo had starred as a left wing-back in an exceptional Swindon Town side at League One level the season before. Unfortunately Westley wasn't a fan of Toffolo's defending and he started just six games, a criminal waste of talent. Toffolo signed for Lincoln City permanently and played well enough there to land a deal at Championship side Huddersfield where he is a regular in the first-team. Posh rating 4/10 (not all his fault though).
15. SCOTT WOOTTON
Posh boss Darren Ferguson bolstered a squad newly promoted to the Championship by taking centre-back Wootton on loan from Manchester United in July, 2011, but he failed to hold down a regular place and returned to Old Trafford in January after starting just seven matches. Wootton returned for a brief second spell (2 appearances) on loan from United in January, 2013 and scored in a 2-1 defeat at Forest. Wotton went on to play for Leeds, MK Dons and Wigan among others and he's now with League One side Morecambe. Posh rating 6/10.
16. STEVE MORROW
A former Arsenal player who joined Posh on loan from QPR in March 2001 and played 11 end-of-season games. He didn't pull up any trees, but he was solid enough. Went to the United States to end his career and is now a respected coach. Posh rating: 6/10. Photo: Getty Images.
