Robbie Savage wants to make some more magical FA Cup memories with Peterborough United

Robbie Savage wants to make some more magical FA Cup memories with Posh.

The Posh boss experienced the thrill of reaching the latter stages as a player, but he has also suffered the gut punches of two semi-final defeats with Blackburn Rovers and a shock quarter-final loss when his Leicester City side were dumped out of the quarter-finals by underdogs Wycombe Wanderers at Filbert Street.

Rovers lost their semi-final 3-0 to Arsenal at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff in 2005 and 2-1 to a Chelsea side chasing a quadruple at Old Trafford in 2007, a match Savage missed because of a broken leg. Savage came on as a substitute against Arsenal.

In 2001, Leicester of the Premiership had been beaten 2-1 by the Second Division Chairboys thanks to a last-minute goal from Roy Essandoh who had only signed for the club a couple of weeks before the game.

"That was a massive frustration,” Savage admitted. “But that’s what can happen in the FA Cup. For me it’s still a great competition. I loved it as a player and I love it as a manager.

"Blackburn went to two semi-finals when I was there. We were well beaten by Arsenal, but we should have beaten Chelsea. Morten Gamst Pedersen missed a great chance in the last minute when it was 1-1 and Michael Ballack went and scored a winner for Chelsea in extra time.

“Last season I took my Forest Green side to Luton and we recovered from 3-0 down to draw levet at 3-3 before losing 4-3. What a game that was. The atmosphere was electric and it delivered the drama the FA Cup is famous for.

“Anything can happen. Look at last season when my old Macclesfield team beat the holders Crystal Palace. I signed nine of that Macclesfield team. It proved the magic still happens and I’d love to experience it with Posh.”

Posh have slashed admission prices for the tie. Tickets are priced at £10 for adults, over 65s and under 24s and £5 for concessions (under 18s and under 14s) with the Kings Power Solution Stand, the Meerkat Family Stand and the London Road End open for the fixture.

There is a £5 price rise on the day of the game for all categories.

The tie will be decided on the night with extra time and penalties to be used if necessary.
