Portsmouth lined up with a very defensive wingback formation in the first half and asked Posh to break them down. Burrows produced the moment of magic needed with a cross from a corner which MacGillvray palmed onto his own defender’s back.
In the second half, Pompey came forward but Posh survived the aerial assault.
RATINGS KEY: 10-Brilliant, 9-Outstanding, 8-Very good, 7-Good, 6-Okay, 5-Poor, 4-Very poor.
1.
CHRISTY PYM: Had little to do but was confident when called upon, held a couple of long range efforts well. 7.
2.
DAN BUTLER: Struggled slightly out on the left, looked tentative on the ball and gave it away too many times. Helped out by the extra cover with the switch to the four at the back. 5.
3.
FRANKIE KENT: Did superbly well in the second half to deny Whatmough a clear chance in the box. Battled very well and won almost everything in the air. 8.
4.
MARK BEEVERS: Pompey's second half gameplan should have suited him but was uncharacteristically beaten in the air a few times and left men unmarked. Unluky to be booked for a tackle on Harness. 6.5
