Peterborough United Women nail the Cobblers as 'secret summer' continued in style

Peterborough United Women’s ‘secret summer’ continued with a handsome 4-0 win over local rivals Northampton Town at PIMS Park on Sunday.

A revamped Posh team have yet to appear in public, although they appear to be going well as four behind-closed-doors friendlies have yielded three wins and a defeat.

Cobblers have been left behind by Jake Poole‘s side in the last couple of seasons so were hardly likely to stretch a team preparing to play in the highest level in the club’s history. Posh start their National Northern Premier League season at Rugby Borough on August 16.

Summer signing, striker Ellie May, claimed her first goal for the club from close range on the half hour mark to put Posh in front and it became 2-0 within 10 minutes as Jess Driscoll supplied a neat finish after some fine work from Niamh Reynolds,

Posh started the second-half with a bang as within a minute of the re-start a Keir Perkins cross was met at the far post by May. She was denied by a fine save, but another newcomer Camille Jenkins was on hand to convert the rebound.

Lauren Wilshaw completed the scoring 20 minutes from time by finishing off a cross from Rebecca Mears.

Posh also hit the woodwork twice through Wilshaw and Romy Saunders, after the Cobblers ‘keeper had made some fine early saves.

Posh: Corry, Driscoll-King, Osker, Pitt (sub Connor, 46 mins), Jenkins, Higginbottom (sub Clarke, 46 mins), Driscoll (sub Mears, 46 mins), Reynolds (sub Brown, 46 mins), Perkins, May, Ganado (sub Wilshaw, 46 mins).

Posh are at Notts County for another friendly next Sunday (August 2).
