Peterborough United stayed in the top half of League One after local rivals Northampton Town claimed an unlikely point

Peterborough United stayed in the top half of League One after local rivals Northampton Town claimed an unlikely point at Barnsley on Tuesday night.

A third home win in a row for ‘The Tykes’ would have seen them move from 15th to 11th, but they could only draw with a Cobblers team that had lost their four previous matches. Posh remain 12th, 10 points off the play-off places and seven points clear of the bottom four ahead of a home game with Wigan Athletic on Saturday (February 7).

Cobblers stay next-to-bottom after picking up three points in their last nine matches, but they are just a point from a place of safety after a 71st minute header from Max Dyche clinched the draw at Oakwell.

Big movers on the night were Grant McCann’s Doncaster Rovers who jumped from 22nd to 17th after a 2-1 win at fellow strugglers Burton Albion who are 22nd a point and a place above Cobblers.

AFC Wimbledon moved four points clear of the drop zone thanks to an 87th minute goal in a 1-0 win at rock bottom Port Vale. The Dons are now 16th, but just three points behind Posh with a game in hand.
