Peterborough United old boy upsets Cambridge United, ton-up Toney on target again, struggling managers in League One, but one-ex-Posh boss has stormed clear at the top of the National League

Peterborough United old boy Tom Nichols put a spoke in Cambridge United’s League Two promotion hopes yesterday (October 31).

Nichols sealed a 2-1 win for Crawley Town over the Us with a neat header. He’d earlier created Crawley’s equaliser.

The 27 year-old has now scored four goals this season, the same number he managed in all of last season.

Ivan Toney scores rather more regularly and he was at it again yesterday as Brentford thumped Luton Town 3-0 at Kenilworth Road in a Championship fixture.

Toney made it 10 goals in his last seven appearances for the Bees with the second goal. His goal against Norwich City last midweek was the 100th of the 24 year-old’s career.

Centre-back Josh Knight played a starring role as Wycombe Wanderers claimed the first Championship win in the club’s history, 1-0 at home to rock bottom Sheffield Wednesday. Knight scorde for Posh at Wycombe last season.

In League One it wasn’t a good day for former Posh managers Steve Evans and Grant McCann.

Gllingham have lost their last five matches under Evans and haven’t scored in any of them. Yesterday they went down 2-0 at home to Sunderland after seeing a penalty saved when the game was goalless and going down to 10 men a couple of minutes later.

Hull were surprisingly beaten 2-1 at Swindon after taking a first-half lead. It ended a run of four straight defeats in League One for the Robins. Hull are now fourth, a point behind leaders Posh.

It’s all going rather well for another former Posh manager Gary Johnson whose Torquay United side are five points clear at the top of the National League after a 5-0 win at previously unbeaten Hartlepool United.

Jim Gannon’s Stockport County are still second despite a 2-1 home loss to Weymouth.
