Peterborough United have begun efforts to tie down their stars ahead of an expected summer of interest from rival clubs.

Peterborough United have offered new contracts to both Hector Kyprianou and Kwame Poku.

The players are under contract at the club until 2025 and 2026 respectively but both have been offered fresh terms after impressive seasons.

Young defender Emmanuel Fernandez has also been offered a new deal.

The club’s retained list, which was released on Monday, also revealed that Posh are trying to tie down both Jed Steer and Josh Knight to new deals.

The current contracts of both players will expire this summer.

Speaking on his Hard Truth podcast, Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony said: “We’ve offered new contracts to Hector and Kwame who are still young and we feel need more time with us and to go again.

"There’s lots to be excited about, we will still have a very strong team and the best midfield in League One with Hector and Archie. That alone is a platform to build around.

"Kwame will be next year by hook or crook, no one at the moment will offer break the bank type money for him. Sign a new deal or not, he’s under 24, we paid a lot of money for him, we will get the same money for him next season, I am not losing sleep.”

Posh have also had to fight off offers for Head Physio Jon Chatfield.

Two clubs, one in the Championship and the other in League One, have activated his release clause although Posh have convinced him to remain at the club.

MacAnthony said: “We worked out a new deal and he agreed that he wanted to stay.

"I can’t speak highly enough of him, he’s turned our whole medical department around in the last two years.

"I’ve already said to the manager, I’d rather have one less player in our squad to keep some of our staff. Our staff are more important to what we do, they are brilliant.”

Posh are expecting to have to sell a couple of key assets this summer but MacAnthony has already ruled out a summer fire sale.

Speaking more about the summer plans, he added: “There will be players leaving to go to some big clubs at the top because they deserve that chance but it won’t be a lot of players.

“The ones that do go will be enough to cover our deficit and our retooling for new players.

“A couple of players have made it clear to us that the type of clubs in for them is going to make it impossible for us to hold onto them. We get that but every club does this every year.

"Our cash hole staying down will be in the millions, going up it would be nearly negated. We need to do business in the transfer market, if we’d have gone up, I probably wouldn’t have needed to sell two or however many.

“It would probably just be one because Ronnie deserves his shot but even then, I even had a conversation with him a couple of weeks ago, what if we went up and I offered you a blockbuster contract, would you stay?

“We have a list, we know what we need to do to strengthen and we’re trying to go a little bit more and get the right fees to give us more strength in the squad.

“My job now is like a wizard, trying to make everything work.”
