And now and again heroism comes from an unlikely source like the Posh players featured here.
Suggestions mostly from Posh fans on Twitter to @PTAlanSwann
5. EMILE SINCLAIR
Posh lost their first seven Championship matches of the 2012-13 season and travelled to leaders Hull City for game number eight so hopes were low. Enter speedy striker Sinclair to bag a hat-trick as Posh won 3-1 to lift the gloom enveloping London Road. They were the only goals Sinclair scored for Posh all season.
6. ETHAN HAMILTON
Posh needed a point to secure promotion from League One in the final home game of last season against promotion rivals Lincoln, but they were 3-0 down after an hour when star midfielder Jack Taylor limped off injured. Enter Ethan Hamilton whose energy and powerful running enabled Posh to get on the front and launch the mother of all comebacks. Referee John Busby and Johnson Clarke-Harris's nerves of steel claimed the headlines, but Hamiton, who was making his 21st substitute appearances of the season, had kick-started the recovery.
7. JONATHAN OBIKA
Gary Johnson had just been sacked as Posh boss in January, 2011 leading to the return of Darren Ferguson. Fergie wasn't in charge for a night game at home to Brentford in League One, but his presence was felt as on-loan striker Obika bagged a 90th-minute winner. It turned out be the only goal of Obika's Posh career and his last appearance for the club (he only played twice), but it helped inspire a Fergie boost, which eventually led to promotion, up and running.
8. GEORGE BERRY
Berry was a larger-than-life character of limited playing ability by the time he turned up at Posh in the 1990-91 season. Manager Chris Turner played him at right-back for the most part, but he popped up to score the goal at Chesterfield on the final day of the season which clinched promotion from Division Four. Posh had been 2-0 down. The equalising goal is pictured, but Berry is out of shot. Berry was released at the end of that season so never played for Posh again.
