The League One representatives on the EFL board are Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony and Barnsley’s Neerav Parekh.

The plan has already been implemented in the Championship for this season; allowing teams from third down to eighth a shot at promotion.

The new format will see the teams finishing third and fourth compete in the play-offs as normal, however, fifth will have to play eighth and sixth play seventh on a one-legged quarter final tie.

After this tie is complete, the play-offs would proceed as normal with a pair of two-legged semi-finals and a final at Wembley.

From the quarter-final winners, the side who finished lowest in the table would take on third, with the other facing the fourth placed finisher.

MacAnthony has previously suggested his support for the plans on radio appearances due to the increased opportunity for sides to be promoted and access to more revenue streams.
