Peterborough United have been 'really unlucky' this season, says Milton Keynes boss

Milton Keynes boss Paul Warne has said that he believes Peterborough Unites have been ‘really unlucky’ this season.

Saturday will see a meeting between two sides who have had difficult starts to the League One season. Both Posh and newly-promoted MK have taken four points from their opening five games.

The difference being MK have not won a game this season. Posh sit in 20th and MK are just one place higher courtesy of their better goal difference.

Warne has said that he will not be underestimating the challenge of Posh due to the fact he does not believe their points tally matches their level of performances in games.

He said: “I like Luke, I’ve spoken to him a few times over the years, he’s one of the good guys. From their games, they’ve looked good. They’ve got Leonard up top who I’ve tried to sign a few times, he’s a really mobile striker who had been given a chance since leaving Blackburn.

"They’ve got a figurehead at the top. They’ve got a young, energetic side who love to pass, they want to keep the ball and they can embarrass you.

“They’re young, so you get that joyful youth of risk-taking, you get that energy and drive. And they’ve been really unlucky in their games. They’re a good team. I love how they play, the risks they take, that they cross it early.

“There is no chance of us underestimating them. It should be a really good game.”

Warne will also be reunited with Liam Kelly, who left the club a matter of weeks ago to join Posh. Kelly has a strong reputation at Stadium MK after being named their Player of the Year last season as they won promotion back to League One.

He added: “Obviously, they’ve got Liam Kelly - MK’s greatest from the 25/26 season - in the middle to give them a bit of experience too.

“I love Kells, I text him all the time since he’s left. When you play your old team, you get cotton-wool mouth, I always struggled against my old clubs. You just want to perform so well but if you try too hard, your performance dips, or if you don’t try hard enough, you don’t reach it.

"I’ve not really had too many problems against former players, touch wood. I obviously wish Kells a good game, but without any points in his top pocket when he leaves! It’ll be nice to see him, he’s a big part of the fabric here.”
