Peterborough United have a small footnote in the life of Kevin Keegan and he became one of the answers to a famous Posh trivia question

Peterborough United has a small footnote in the life of football superstar Kevin Keegan who died on Monday.

Keegan made his Football League debut aged 17 for Scunthorpe United at London Road in September, 1968. He played on the wing in a 3-2 Posh win in a Division Four match. Colin Garwood scored in the first minute for Posh with Jim Hall adding two second goals in front of a modest crowd of 5,401.

Keegan became part of a famous old Posh trivia question as one of three England captains to have played for Scunthorpe at London Road. The others were goalkeeper Ray Clemence and Ian Botham. Botham played at Posh just a year after his 1981 Ashes heroics on behalf of the England cricket team. Posh won that Division Four game 2-1.

Keegan died aged 75 yesterday after a battle against cancer. He joined Liverpool from Scunthorpe in 1971 and scored 100 goals in 323 appearances, while helping The Reds to three Division One titles, two UEFA Cups and a European Cup.

Keegan also played for Hamburg in Germany, Southampton and Newcastle United. He netted 204 goals in 592 club appearances and 21 goals in 63 appearances for England. Keegan managed Newcastle, Fulham, Manchester City and the England national team.
