Peterborough United gained a precious point thanks to Harry's strike, but it was another hard watch

Harry Leonard’s thumping strike earned Peterborough United a point from a 1-1 draw against Burton Albion at the Weston Homes Stadium.

It looked like being another frustrating result for Posh when they fell behind to Charlie Webster’s deflected strike just before the break.

But they rallied in the second-half and Leonard scored with a low drive on the hour mark to claim what is probably a precious, but far from uplifting, point.

There were very few chances at either end after that, but Posh spurned the best of them when a lovely pass from Archie Collins found Leonard in the penalty area, but goalkeeper Brad Collins was quickly out to save. It was the only time Collins did move with any pace with his rather obvious time wasting not punished until the 98th minute by disinterested referee Steve Copeland.

Posh boss Luke Williams rang the changes again following the Port Vale shambles, but he was again without JJ Morgan and Ben Woods. Cian Hayes replaced Bolu Shofowoke on the wing with David Kamara drafted in to play as a striker with Leonard behind him.

Matt Garbett was deployed alongside Archie Collins and David Okagbue returned to partner Tom Lees at the back. Peter KIoso and Brandon Khela were dropped to the substitutes’ bench.

Getting Leonard and Garbett more involved from less congested areas was presumably the plan. It worked a treat with Garbett the game’s outstanding player and Leonard seeing far more of the ball which can never be a bad thing.

In contrast Burton named an unchanged starting line-up for the first time since December, but my goodness they are a tough watch with throw-ins their main weapon, as well as the dozy Posh defenders who kept passing the ball to them in the first-half.

Posh started brightly with Garbett seeing a free kick parried away by Collins, but they were soon caught up by Burton’s go-slow, break the game-up tactics and struggled to gather any momentum despite the best efforts of Garbett.

The one clear chance for Posh fell to Dornelly from a Garbett corner, but a close range header went wide.

By then Burton could have been a couple of goals up. Tyrese Shade inexplicably hooked over the bar from close range and Posh also had a couple of ucky escapes after giving the ball away too easily. Lees and Okagbue were the culprits.

The visitors constantly made progress down the wings and looked for their one quality player Webster on the edge of the penalty area and that’s how they scored just before the break.

Shade eased past Harley Mills and fed Webster whose shot took a wicked deflection off Dornelly before hitting the back of the net.

Shade had another decent chance when escaping beyond the Posh back four, but Alex Bass stood tall to save.

Posh finally found some momentum with Dornelly heading wide from a great position from Garbett’s free kick. Leonard then shot from 20 yards after ignoring Lisbie free on his right, but the top scorer was merely having a sighter as two minutes later he scored.

The game petered out badly with Burton doing most of the pressing. The Posh commitment was strong though with Lees winning an enormous amount of defensive set piece headers. It was a massive improvement on the previous game, but then it would have impossible not to be.
