Embankment fireworks display set to clash with Peterborough United home match as council issues travel advice - including car parks

Gates open at 4pm for the Embankment display

Peterborough City Council is asking those attending the fireworks display at the Embankment on Saturday (November 7) to walk or use public transport wherever possible to minimise congestion in the city centre.

Large crowds are expected at the event, with gates opening at 4pm ahead of the main display at 8.30pm.

City centre congestion is set to be increased by matchday traffic from Peterborough United’s home fixture against Reading, which kicks off at 8pm.

With thousands expected in the city centre on Saturday evening, the Council is asking attendees of both events to leave their car at home if at all possible.

Bishop's Road car park will be reserved for Blue Badge holders only and as a drop-off and collection point for taxis.

A Council spokesperson said: “We know there will be a lot of traffic over the course of the evening, but we ask for your patience in helping make sure both events can progress smoothly for all those attending and with as little disruption as possible for other residents.”
