Peterborough United debutant urges fans to stick with a team that 'has a right chance' this season

Debutant Harry Ashfield has urged Peterborough United fans to stick with a team that can go places this season.

Ashfield came on as a second-half substitute in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday after moving to Posh from Wrexham for an undisclosed fee on transfer deadline day.

The 20 year-old midfielder delivered a decent little cameo at the Weston Homes Stadium which included a couple of close efforts on goal as Posh slipped to an unfortunate defeat against the table-topping Owls.

"I was delighted to make my debut,” Ashfield told BBC Cambs. “But gutted we got nothing from the game as the performance was very good.

"The fans should stick with us as we will soon start getting results if we keep playing like that. We controlled the game at times and we will rectify the mistakes we made on the training pitch this week.

"When I stepped onto the pitch I just wanted to give my all. I like to get free in attacking areas, but my finishing was a bit rusty. I’m determined to show the fans what I’ve got though and I’m already enjoying working for a manager whose attention to detail is brilliant.

"I knew straight away that this was the club for me. A massive thank you to Wrexham for all they’ve done for me, but I was delighted to get this move.

"There is competition for places in midfield, but that will only make us all better. We will push each other and learn from each other every day. If you start you have to try and make sure you keep your place, but if you come on off the bench you have to show what you can do to get into the side.

"My aim is to help the side get as far up the table as possible. If we can turn these performances into points we will have a right chance this season.”
