Penalty king honoured to have a chance to shine for Peterborough United
Peterborough United penalty king David Kamara feels honoured to be given a chance to shine at Football League level.
The 20 year-old striker spent the first seven months of the season playing against the likes of Spalding, Stamford and St Ives in the Southern Premier Division Central for Harborough Town. That’s step 3 football, one below Peterborough Sports, and five divisions below League One.

Kamara was recalled by Posh as soon as it became certain Harry Leonard would require surgery to solve a hernia problem and now he has more goals than first-team starts after converting two penalties as a substitute in Tuesday night’s 5-0 romp against Rotherham United. He’d made a promising full debut at Orient on Saturday.
Kamara had only been on the pitch three minutes when a foul on Kyrell Lisbie gave Posh their first spot-kick, but that wasn’t the only reason he had no time to be nervous.
“I didn’t know I would be taking it,” Kamara admitted in an interview with Posh press officer Phil Adlam. "I was buzzing because we had won a penalty, but I was already thinking about getting back to halfway for the kick off. I didn’t know what was going on. Kyrell looked he would be taking it, but then Peter Kioso ran over and gave me the ball.
"PK backed me to score and to be fair so did Kyrell. I saw it as an opportunity. Some players might have been nervous especially after a minor argument, but I just picked my spot and hit it there. There was no doubt in my mind. Pick your corner, go for it and never change your mind.
"It was all a blur after the ball went in, but the other boys joined me to celebrate and it was a great feeling to see them so happy for me. To have the trust of everyone to start a game on Saturday and then come on and take a penalty last night is massive for me. I’m honoured to be involved and to have an opportunity to show what I can do.
“Even when the second penalty was awarded I was happy to let Brandon Khela take it, but PK again got involved and gave the ball to me again. I wasn’t going to complain! To score twice right in front of the home fans was just a great feeling.
"I’ve not known the current management for long, but they have played a massive part in my career already. Ryan Harley has worked with a me a lot giving me those little details that will make me stronger as a player.
“We will keep working hard now. This will be a big boost for our confidence.”
Posh are back in League One action at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday. Posh beat ‘The Dons’ 5-0 at London Road earlier this season in Luke Williams’ first match as manager.
