Northampton Town complete a bad weekend for struggling League One teams and Peterborough United forward claims his first goal of the season

It was a splendid Saturday for those Peterborough United fans who fear their injury-hit side could yet be dragged into a League One relegation battle.

Posh didn’t have a game today as their scheduled opponents Port Vale have FA Cup commitments this weekend.

They dropped two places from 11th to 13th after home wins for Barnsley and Plymouth Argyle, but seven of the bottom 10 were also in action and none of them won.

Relegation battlers Blackpool and Wigan Athletic drew 1-1 with other, while there were defeats for Exeter City, Doncaster Rovers, Burton Albion, Rotherham United and Leyton Orient. Orient, the next opponents for Posh on March 14, lost 2-1 at Bradford City after the hosts had been reduced to 10 men when the score was 1-1.

The gap between Posh and the relegation zone remained at 10 points after next-to-bottom Northampton Town lost 1-0 at AFC Wimbledon on Sunday. The Cobblers are themselves three points from safety. Wimbledon have joined Posh on 46 points and seek a fourth home win a row against Blackpool on Wednesday (March 11).

At the other end of the table Lincoln City are now top after a 2-0 win at previous leaders Cardiff City. ‘The Imps’ are now unbeaten in 19 games.

Third-placed Bolton Wanderers staged a remarkable comeback from 2-0 down at home to Wycombe Wanderers with two minutes to go to win 3-2 and Kevin Ehibhatiomhan claimed a hat-trick as Reading won 3-2 at Luton.

Huddersfield Town have sneaked back into the play-off places after a fortunate 1-0 home win against Rotherham. Posh are nine points behind Huddersfield with a game in hand.

There are eight more League One games on Tuesday/Wednesday next week.

Tuesday: Barnsley v Cardiff; Doncaster v Luton; Exeter v Lincoln; Mansfield v Reading; Stevenage v Orient; Wigan v Plymouth.

Wednesday: Port Vale v Bradford; Wimbledon v Blackpool.

In League Two on-loan Posh player Klaidi Lolos scored in Crawley Town’s 2-2 home draw with Swindon Town, while former Posh skipper Oliver Norburn scored in a 2-1 success for Notts County at Walsall. It was a first goal of the season for Lolos.
