Mansfield Town boss predicts a tough first home game of the season for Peterborough United, plus form guide, team news, big match odds etc

Mansfield Town manager Nigel Clough is expecting a much different contest when his side visit Peterborough United for a League One fixture on Saturday (3pm kick off).

The teams met at the Weston Homes Stadium in the penultimate fixture of last season when Posh finally sealed their safety from relegation after a nervy goalless draw.

Clough said: “This will be a completely different game. They were a little bit nervy at the end of last season as they still needed a point to secure their League One status. We were in the middle of a good run as well.

"It will be difficult first home game for them, but the crowd and their players will be up for it. We’ve always had good games at Peterborough and I hope this will be another one.”

CURRENT FORM ‘The Stags’ won their opening League One game 2-1 at home to Doncaster Rovers last weekend, but they’ve lost cup matches at home either side of the game, 3-0 to Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup and 4-1 to Manchester City Under 21s in the EFL Trophy.

TEAM NEWS

Mansfield have doubts about forwards David McGoldrick and Tyler Roberts, midfielder George Maris and defenders Baily Cargill and Luke Bolton.

PAST MATCHES

Posh have an outstanding record in this Football League fixture, winning 18 and losing just five of 26 meetings.

But they haven’t won either of the last two clashes which finished 0-3 in 2024 and 0-0 last season. The previous meeting took place in 2007 when Posh won a League Two game 2-1 with goals from Josh Low and Danny Crow.

MATCH REFEREE

Martin Woods is the man in the middle tomorrow. He had the pleasure of witnessing former Posh striker Malik Mothersille’s hat-trick in a 6-3 EFL Trophy win for Stockport County against Everton Under 21s this week. He last refereed Posh in a 3-1 home win over Shrewsbury Town in March, 2025 when he sent off visiting striker John Marquis in the first minute.

BIG MATCH ODDS Posh are 8-5 to win tomorrow with Sky Bet. Mansfield are slight favourites at 7-5 with the draw priced at 5-2.
