Key Events

  • 3-0 Luton FT
  • Adebayo gives Luton the lead from a corner after half an hour
  • JCH and Marriott have just one pre-season appearance each but could start
  • First game back at Championship level for Posh since 2013
  • Luton score twice in three second half minutes
  • Taylor, Marriott and Dembele miss out completely

10 seconds into the season and we have the first Thompson flop. Called so by Darragh who I can hear on my right. It could be an interesting afternoon.

to the must be one of the loudest roars I’ve ever heard. It’s so good the be back.

Great to have the fans back and everyone is getting in position as we are just five minutes away from kick-off. Alex Ferguson has just arrived, can’t help but fell this side could do with some of his tactical magic today.

Teams heading in from the warm-ups. A few players out there not in the squad. Barker and Poku will have to wait until the EFL Cup tie on Tuesday atleast. Taylor is here but never changed out of his tracksuit. A real worry.

Big day for Tomlinson

The one really interesting call in this line up is the inclusion of Joe Tomlinson out wide. He’s making the step up straight from the National League. He did score 12 times last season and is renowned for his set-pieces but it’s a bog call, especially when Burrows would seem to the the obvious replacement in the position on paper. Seems he has impressed in training.

The last time these two sides met in January 2019, Luton ran riot in a 4-0 win but before that, Posh were actually on an five game unbeaten streak against the Hatters.

19 Jan 2019- Luton 4-0 Posh

13 Nov 2018- Posh (Daniel, Toney) 2-1 Luton - EFL Trophy

18 Aug 2018- Posh (Cummings 2, Dembele) 3-1 Luton

09 Jan 2018- Posh 0-0 Luton (7-6 pens) - EFL Trophy

06 Dec 2015- Posh (Washington, Maddison) 2-0 Luton

03 Jan 2005- Posh (Calum Willock 2) 2-2 Luton

Luton are seriously short at the back it seems. Centre backs Reece Burke, Sonny Bradley and Tom Lockyer are out. It looks as Bell, Osho and Bree will form a make-shift backline.

No Taylor, Dembele and Marriott

A few raised eyebrows at the Posh line up. It looks like a four with Butler, Kent, Beevers and Thompson. Tomlinson on the left, with Knight filling in for Taylor.

An extremely youthful bench for Posh. Ethan Hamilton is the oldest outfield player on the bench at 22 years of age.

Simon Sluga, James Bree, Kal Naismith, Amari’i Bell, Allan Campbell, Pelly Ruddock-Mpanzu, Harry Cornick, Jordan Clark, Fred Onyendinma, Elijah Adebayo

Subs: James Shea, Glen Rea, Carlos Mendes Gomes, Peter Kioso, Henri Lansbury, Admiral Muskwe, Cameron Jerome
