Tonbey broke his silence on his long-running transfer saga during an interview with Sky Sports at St George’s Park today (August 18) where the striker is currently training with Posh

That could explain why the 24 year-old remains a Posh player as the £10 million deal the club struck two weeks ago was with a Championship club, most likely Brentford.

Toney said: “There was talk of a deal being done and that I could talk to another club, but I just let my agent and my dad deal with that sort of stuff.

“I have told them what clubs I want to go to and we’ll have to wait to see who turns up, but I want to play in the Premier League. I want to play at the highest level and I am sure my ability will get me there one day.”

Brentford were chasing Toney hard in January, but Posh refused to sell. They will sell now if the price is right and yesterday it was reported the offer Posh had accepted was £6.5 million with plenty of add-ons. Posh refused to comment on that report.

Today Posh director of football Barry Fry said: “I’ve had eight clubs enquire about Ivan and three have made bids, two of which were not accepted.

“The other bid was a good one with plenty of add ons, but Ivan and his representatives turned that one down.”
