But who was the player you’d bet your house on scoring from a one-on-one opportunity, or any scoring chance which would have a high XG (expected goal) in today’s parlance?
Here we celebrate the best Posh finishers, not necessarily those with the most goals.
It’s a personal choice covering players I’ve seen in action for Posh, so basically since the 1973-74 season with apologies to the superstar strikers from before then like Terry Bly, Dennis Emery, Derek Dougan and Peter Price.
My top 20 is here in reverse order leading to my number one pick. It was incredibly tough to rank so many top players.
I’ve also asked fans on X to nominate their top finisher. At the time of posting this article I had 23 different nominations, the most-voted for players will be revealed on this site on Friday.
To cast a vote post to @PTAlanSwann.

1. 20th: PAUL CULPIN
This striker from the late 1980s-early 1990s wouldn't feature in any best Posh player lists, or any best Posh striker lists. He didn't run around a great deal, but he could finish, even memorably one afternoon when being chased by invading Cardiff City fans. Photo: David Lowndes

2. 19th - TONY PHILLISKIRK
It wasn't easy replacing Posh legend 'King' Ken Charlery, especially as Posh were playing in the second tier for the first time in the club's history when it happened. But Philliskirk scored on his debut in a memorable 2-0 win at Leicester City and his quality left foot ensured he scored from a decent percentage of the chances that came his way. 3. 18th - JOHN COZENS
The top scorer and captain of the last Posh team to win a title, Division Four in the 1973-74 season. Good in the air, and decent on the deck. Cozens scored 19 goals in that season and formed a great strike partnership with Jim Hall. Photo: David Lowndes

4. 17th - LEE TOMLIN
Expert finishing was one of many of this player's attributes. Scorer of a classy hat-trick in a famous 7-1 win over Ipswich Town in the Championship. Photo: david lowndes
