Double jeopardy threat for Peterborough United from recent Wigan Athletic signings, plus big match odds and sods
On Saturday Peterborough United could be facing two players who have already delivered knockout blows against them in League One fixtures this season.
Wigan Athletic signed winger Caylan Vickers on loan from Premier League Brighton on deadline day and he is expected to make his debut at the Weston Homes Stadium. The 21 year-old played 15 times on loan at League One Barnsley in the first half of this season, scoring twice, including the only goal of the game at London Road in August, albeit with the help of David Okagbue’s head.
And Wigan also signed former Posh striker Joe Taylor on loan from Huddersfield Town earlier in January. Taylor scored the third Huddersfield Town goal in a 3-2 win over Posh in West Yorkshire in September, one of seven League One goals he scored for ‘The Terriers’ this season before they allowed him to join Wigan.
Taylor didn’t start a single EFL game for Posh after arriving from King’s Lynn in March, 2022. He made 12 substitute appearances without scoring, but he did net in a 2-0 League Cup win at Plymouth. Luton still took Taylor for £500k in a shock transfer in January 2023. The 23 year-old has scored once in four appearances for Wigan.

OTHERS TO WATCH
Winger Fraser Murray and midfielder Callum Wright are Wigan’s top goal-scorers in League One games with four goals apiece.
Former Arsenal youngster Matt Smith is a classy performer at this level, but goalkeeper Sam Tickle remains the club’s prize asset.
PAST POSH v WIGAN
Posh have lost this EFL fixture more times than they’ve won it (4-5), although a first-half goal from Manchester City loanee Mo Susoho secured a home success last season. Wigan beat a much better Posh side 3-2 the season before at London Road.
BIG MATCH ODDS
Posh are 5-4 favourites with Sky Bet to win Saturday’s clash. Wigan are 21-10 to win with the same firm and the draw is priced at 9-4.
MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Unusually the same referee who took charge of Wigan’s 2-0 win over Posh at the Brick Community Stadium. Stephen Parkinson issued just three yellow cards in a one-sided affair, two of them to Posh.
