Peterborough Sports say goodbye to PIMS Park for another season with another defeat

The final home game of a poor season for Peterborough Sports ended in defeat at the hands of AFC Telford.

Sports went down 3-2 to the visitors to PIMS Park. They scored the first and last goals of a decent contest, but they will now finish next-to-bottom of the table despite still having two games to play.

‘The Turbines’ started strongly and broke the deadlock in the ninth minute as Kaine Felix bought down a cross to the far post before firing low into the bottom corner tp claim his first goal of the season.

But Telford responded within two minutes when Alex Fletcher played Remi Walker through on goal and he stabbed in from close range.

Sports had opportunities to retake the lead before the break with Max Booth firing over the woodwork before a well-taken volley from Zach Willis flashed wide of the post. Booth was one of two first-half substitutes for Sports who lost Antony Stewart and Felix to injuries.

The visitors took the lead six minutes into the second-half as an in-swinging corner ricocheted off the woodwork into the path of Kade Craig who fired home from inside the six-yard box.

And two minutes later, they doubled their lead as Dylan Allen-Hadley’s effort was parried by Crook into the path of Matty Stenson who slotted in the rebound.

The post was called into action several times with Matty Stenson striking for the visitors before Luca Miller smacked the woodwork for Sports

In stoppage time, Sports got a goal back as Booth advanced forward one-on-one with Gracey and slotted into the bottom corner, but it was too late to make a difference to the result.
