Whoever takes over will inherit a team in fine form as Sports climbed into the Southern Premier Division Central play-off places with a 4-2 win at lowly Leighton Town on Saturday.

The city side eased into a 2-0 lead with first-half goals from Michael Richens, direct from a free kick, and Lewis Green who pounced on a fine through ball from Harvey Williams.

But the hosts scored twice in eight second-half minutes to make it 2-2 with 20 minutes to go, but a Jordon Cooke header from a Connor Wood corner on 74 minutes and a 78th minute Leon Lobjoit goal made it seven league games unbeaten for Sports, the last three under caretaker boss Mark Ducket who is a in the running to take the job on permanently. Lobjoit scored from a rebound after his penalty, one awarded after a foul on the Maliq Cadogan, was saved.

Spalding United are in the hat for Monday’s FA Cup fourth qualifying round draw, but they have work to do to get past third qualifying round opponents Bury Town. The teams will replay at the Sir Halley Stewart Field on Tuesday after a 1-1 draw in Suffolk. Spalding fell behind early on at lower level opposition, but Dion Sembie-Ferris equalised in first-half added time.

Former Sports player and boss Michael Gash scored his first goal for Deeping Rangers as the bottom club stormed to a 4-1 win at fellow United Counties Premier Division North strugglers Hucknall Town. The home side led before Gash levelled late in the first-half and three goals in the final 10 minutes from Bailey Baler, Rueben Fogg and Harvey Thorne delivered a comfortable away win.

Blackstones went down 4-1 at home to AFC Mansfield after Harry Peasgood had drawn them level on 57 minutes.

FC Peterborough became the first team to take points off Premier Division South leaders Knowle and they were within minutes of bringing all three points home. David Yisah fired the city side into a half-time lead, but Knowle grabbed a 90th minute equaliser.

Yaxley are a point above the relegation zone after a 4-1 loss at Lutterworth Town. Martyn Fox scored for ‘The Cuckoos.’

March Town moved back up to second in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division after a 2-2 home draw with Haverhill Rovers and Ryan Lennon scored twice as mid-table Wisbech Town won 4-2 at Cornard United.

There were Thurlow Nunn Division One North home defeats for FC Parson Drove, Holbeach United and Whittlesey Athletic, while Netherton United bowed out of the Northants Junior Cup 3-0 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Irchester Rovers.
