Peterborough Sports found the going tough at the home of high fliers, Stamford AFC beaten but dramatic win for Bourne Town

A fourth National League North win on the spin was always going to be an uphill task for Peterborough Sports.

The city side travelled all the way up to the North West coast on a chilly day to face a Fylde team flying high in second place and looking for an immediate return to the National League.

And the hosts raced into a ninth minute lead through Preston North End loanee Felipe Rodríguez-Gentile and scored twice more in the final five minutes of the first half for a 3-0 interval advantage. Felipe and Danny Ormerod were the scorers.

Sports made a triple substitution at the break and the response was immediate as in-form Shaquile Coulthirst pulled a goal back in the 46th minute.

But Fylde scored again within eight minutes and added a fifth goal just past the hour mark before substitute Maliq Cadogan claimed a late consolation goal for Sports who are now two places and four points clear of the relegation zone. Jonathan Ustabasi scored the final two Fylde goals.

Sports are at home to Curzon Ashton on Saturday (3pm) before travelling to Buxton on Tuesday, February 10. Midfielder Elliott Whitehouse and defender Zach Willis have extended their loans at Sports from Macclesfield and Birmingham City respectively until the end of the season.

Sports: Crook, Willis, Hickingbottom, Oakley, Wood (sub Powell 60 mins), McLintock (sub Whitehouse, 46 mins), Carayol (sub Straughan-Brown, 46 mins), Davies (sub Faakye 60 mins), Miller, Booth (sub Cadogan, 46 mins), Coulthirst. Unused subs: Edwards, Jeffers.

Elsewhere Stamford AFC remain five points from safety in the Southern Premier Division Central after a 2-0 defeat at Quorn. Spalding stayed top after second-placed Harborough Town’s game at Real Bedford was postponed.

Bourne Town grabbed a last-gasp winner in a 2-1 Northern Premier Midlands Division win at home to Sutton Coldfield. Robbie Ellis was the late goal hero after Zak Allen had equalised from the penalty spot. Bourne would have won by a much bigger margin but for an inspired display by the visiting goalkeeper.

Bourne are now just a point and a place from safety.
