Sports beat Essex League side Stansted 4-2 in a second qualifying round tie at the Bee Arena yesterday (October 3) to move into Monday’s draw for the next round.

The city side looked set to stroll home against lower level opposition when Maniche Sani and Josh Moreman fired them 2-0 up, but Stansted had levelled before the half hour mark.

Moreman scored twice more after the break to send Sports through, but they won’t be joined by Stamford AFC who went down on penalties at Sports’ Southern League Premier Division rivals Royston Town.

The Daniels fought back from a 2-0 half-time deficit to score twice in the final 12 minutes through Tendai Chitiza and Rob Morgan to take the tie to penalties, but the hosts won the shootout 4-2.

Elsewhere Yaxley are off the mark in Southern League Division One Central as goals from Jordan Macleod and Charlie Sanders secured a 2-1 win over early-season pacesetters Dicot at the Decker Bus Stadium.

Avelino Vieira claimed the first Wisbech Town goal of the Northern Premier League season, but the Fenmen still went down 3-2 in a South East Division fixture at home to Newcastle Town.

Tai Williams scored twice for Deeping Rangers in a 4-2 United Counties Premier Division home win over Leicester Nirvana, but struggling Peterborough Northern Star were heavily beaten 6-0 at Cogenhoe.

Whittlesey Athletic moved above Blackstones into seventh in Division One after a 1-1 draw at Sileby. Blackstones were crushed 4-0 at home by St Andrews and Bourne Town are right behind them in ninth after a 5-1 home win over Birstall. Bourne host Blackstones at the Abbey Lawns on Tuesday (October 6).

Two Craig Gillies penalties gave March Town a 2-1 home win over Mulbarton Wanderers in Eastern Counties Division One North.
