Langlands’ time of 49.18, slightly in excess of 30mph, was a new national Clarion record to go with the 50-mile record he took just two weeks ago.

His time also eclipsed the long-standing Fenland Clarion record of Olympian Gary Dighton that had stood since 1987 by a full three minutes. In the same event Fenland’s Paul Lilley finished in 55.14.

Clarion’s Mia Purnell was first lady in 21:48 in the Hereward League race (just over 7 miles) hosted by Bourne Wheelers.

Other Fenland Clarion times: Simon Pitchford 17.47, Paul Lilley 18.23, Steve Kaye 18.28, Lynden Leadbeater 18.41, Jerry Norman 18.50, Phil Merritt 20.05, Dave O’Brien 20.06, Gareth Purnell 22.11, Andy Goodsell 22.29.

It was another busy weekend of racing for Peterborough Cycling Club which saw new signing Matthew Senter finish 10th in the SPOCO 25 time-trial near Six Mile Bottom. He clocked a PB of 52:09.

The race was won by World Tour professional Alex Dowsett, the British TT Champion, in a new British record time of 44:29.

The next day Senter scored his first win of the season and his first for the club when winning the Stowmarket 10 in 21:04.

In the Beardsall Cup race on Thursday evening another club fast man Paul Pardoe was the fastest rider on scratch time covering the unusual distance of 24 miles in 51:53.

However, this is a handicap race and the new holder of the trophy is new member Claire Steels, who was actually sixth fastest out of 14.
