The exact time The Met Office has issued a snow warning for Peterborough - as wintry weather continues

The Met Office has issued a new snow warning for Peterborough this week, as the wintry weather continues.

The snow warning comes into force at 5pm on Thursday (January 8), and lasts until midday on Friday (January 9).

However, it is yet to be seen how much snow will land – and if it will settle – as a separate warning for rain is in place for Peterborough between 6pm on Thursday and 9pm on Friday.

The rain warning says: “Heavy and persistent rain through Thursday night into Friday may lead to some flooding and disruption.”

What the Met Office has said is that temperatures will be very low, for the rest of the week, with temperatures struggling to get above 4C during the day – and hovering around the freezing point at night.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued an Amber cold health alert for Peterborough, which came into force on Tuesday, and will remain in force until noon on Sunday, January 11.

The alert says: “Forecast weather is likely to cause significant impacts across health and social care services, including:

– a rise in deaths, particularly among those aged 65 and over or with health conditions. We may also see impacts on younger age groups

– a likely increase in demand for health services

– temperatures inside places like hospitals, care homes, and clinics dropping below the levels recommended for assessing health risks

– challenges keeping indoor temperatures at the recommended 18°C leading to more risk to vulnerable people

– staffing issues due to external factors (such as travel delays)

– other sectors starting to observe impacts (such as transport and energy)
