Met Office issues ice warning for Peterborough with freezing temperatures forecast

A weather warning has been issued for Peterborough – with ice and freezing temperatures forecast to arrive overnight.

The Met Office have issued the Yellow Weather Warning for much of England and Wales, including Peterborough.

The warning starts at 5pm today (Friday, February 13) and lasts until 10am tomorrow (Saturday, February 14).

The warning says: “A band of rain and sleet, with a little snow on hills, will clear southwards across England and Wales during Friday evening and overnight. As skies clear, temperatures will fall below freezing leading to a risk of ice forming on untreated surfaces. “What Should I Do? “Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy. Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls. “If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated. “Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary. “Be prepared for weather warnings to change: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”

The forecast for Peterborough itself says rain will remain in the city until at least 10pm.

Temperatures will hover around the 3C mark until 3am, when it will drop to 1C – and then to 0C at 6am.

There is some good news though, as Saturday could see a dry day, with a less than 5% chance of rain in Peterborough – and even the chance of some much needed sunshine.

The brief dry spell won’t last though, as sleet and rain is forecast for Sunday.
