Safety concerns raised over taxis stopping to pick up on Town Bridge in Peterborough city centre
Safety concerns have been raised about taxi drivers in Peterborough city centre parking on Town Bridge.
The Peterborough Private Hire Association has said that it has received multiple complaints from members of the public, local businesses, and fellow road users regarding vehicles picking up passengers on the Town Bridge.
A large number of these drivers are believed to be picking up people who have left Charters Bar.
Residents have complains that stopping on the bridge is causing increased congestion and traffic disruption, reduced visibility for approaching drivers and create a higher potential for accidents.

In response, the association has asked all of its drivers to ‘show a commitment to responsible driving’ and refrain from parking on the bridge.
A spokesperson said: “To improve safety and traffic flow, we strongly ask all drivers and operators to use the lower car park at Charters for pick-ups and drop-offs wherever possible. This designated area is far safer and helps reduce disruption for everyone.
“While convenience is important, safety and professionalism must always come first. Using the lower car park shows a commitment to responsible driving and helps maintain the strong reputation of Peterborough’s licensed trade.
“We kindly ask all operators to communicate this guidance clearly to drivers and to reinforce the importance of following this request.
“By cooperating and showing consideration for others, we can address these concerns and continue to promote a positive image of our industry.”
