Drivers warned as multiple vehicle crash closes A1 south of Peterborough

Drivers have been warned to avoid the A1 south of Peterborough as lanes have been closed following a multiple vehicle collision.

A Highways England statement this morning (Tuesday, December 15) said: “The closure is in place due to a multiple vehicle collision involving a lorry which has struck the central reservation.

“Lane 2 (of 2) is also closed on the southbound carriageway due to the damaged barrier.

“There are currently no delays on the approach to the closure northbound or passing the lane closure on the southbound carriageway however the closure is expected to remain in place throughout the morning peak travel period.

“Road users are advised to expect disruption with extra journey time and to consider re-routing or delaying journeys.”

Diversion Route:

Exit the A1 at Wyboston onto the A428 eastbound

Continue along the A428 eastbound for approximately 7 miles until at Eltisley.

At Eltisley turn left onto the B1040 northbound.

Continue along the B1040 until at the roundabout with the A1198.

Turn left onto the A1198 northbound continuing towards the A14.

Once at the junction with A14 at junction 23 turn left to join the westbound carriageway.

Continue westbound along the A14 until the next junction where road users can resume northbound journeys along the A1.
