Three lanes of the carriageway were blocked by the crash, and police then closed the road to allow emergency services to work at the scene.

A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to release one casualty. They returned to station by 8pm.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We treated a number of patients - four were described as walking wounded byt one woman was taken to Hinchinbrooke Hospital with back injuries. The injuries were not thought to be serious.”
