An cheeky visitor to Peterborough city centre poked his head above water this morning to brighten commuters' journey to work.

The seal - which has been named Ron Seal - made his appearance under the railway bridge near Asda at Rivergate.

An eye witness, who caught pictures of the seal on their mobile phone, said: “I saw him out of the corner of my eye under the bridge, but then he disappeared under the water.

“I had heard there had been a seal spotted at Rivergate, so I kept watching for a few minutes to see where he would turn up - but I could not see him.

“I started walking along the path, when I saw him again. I have never seen a seal so close to the city centre before.”

It is unclear as to whether the seal is the same one spotted in Orton Mere earlier this month.
