Peterborough teens encouraged to ‘get involved with local politics’ ahead of Youth Elections
Young people across Peterborough are being encouraged to vote for who they would like to serve as the city’s new Youth MPs.
The aim of the elections – which are open to people between the ages of 11 and 18 – is to elect Youth MPs who will serve as the voice of young people in Peterborough.
It will then be the duty of those elected to share their views at a local, regional and national level through the UK Youth Parliament.
Danielle Daboh and Pranav Aggarwal have been the city’s Youth MPs since 2024.

Councillor Katy Cole, cabinet member for Children’s Services for Peterborough City Council, said: “It’s been inspirational watching Danielle and Pranav represent Peterborough young people these past two years and I’m keen to see who will be next to step into this important role.”
Elections will be held in schools and colleges across the city between March 16- 20. There will also be a polling station at the Town Hall on Thursday March 19 between 1-5pm.
With recent changes in law regarding the national voting age for General Elections, the focus on youth politics – and the drive to get young people involved in politics – has never been greater:
“With 16-year-olds being entitled to vote at the next General Election, it is vitally important that young people get involved in their local communities and champion the opinion of the young people in this city,” Cllr Cole said.
“Here in Peterborough, our population has a large young demographic and we want their voices to get heard,” she added.
“Let’s encourage Peterborough’s young people to get involved with local politics and vote on which candidates resonate with them the most.”
