Today Ben Negus, head coach of COPS, welcomed the news. He said: “We are happy to see great ambitions set out for the future of Peterborough’s aquatics. The minimum the city requires to replace the provisions the Regional gives us is an 8 lane 25m pool with a learn to swim pool outlet. To see this kind of pitch for the future of Peterborough is very positive. The ambition of the city’s future talent and its community needs should always be matched by the investment of the city and this is a positive step in the right direction to providing Peterborough with renewed facilities on the city’s door-step”.

The swimming club is now back in training after lockdown at the current Regional Pool. Ben said: “We are very grateful to the staff at the Regional Pool and Peterborough City Council for re-opening the Regional pool with such well controlled provisions. Thanks to Steve Luker and his team, we are now able to access some of the our original training time, which after 5 months out of the water has given our members much needed boost to now go on and work towards their goals. It’s great to be back in our ‘home’ and great to see the happy faces returning to do what they love. From a club point of view it’s great as we are now able to recruit and take in new members again. And thanks to the provisions that the Regional Pool has put on we can do this safe away from public swimming”.

For anyone interested in joining the club Trials will be on Sunday nights at 5.00-6.00pm. Please contact [email protected] to book a space.
