Works to repair cracking bridge between Peterborough and Whittlesey delayed for a further month
Works to repair the structural defects on the bridge at King’s Dyke between Whittlesey and Peterborough have been delayed for a further month.
Work has been ongoing since July to correct the road surface of the bridge and there has been a lane closure in place since July 2024.
In May 2025, contractor, Jones Bros reported further cracks that had appeared in the road surface near the centre of the carriageway.
Work was set to be completed at the end of January but contractors Jones Bros has now informed Cambridgeshire County Council that the work is now expected to run until the end of February.

The additional month is required due to a combination of both delivery and weather issues. The company has said it has made changes to their subcontractors to deliver the works more efficiently and to the standards expected but the cold weather has prevented the sprayed concrete works from restarting at the beginning of January as had been expected.
Cambridgeshire County Council has said that it is ‘deeply disappointed’ with the news and will continue to do everything it can to compel the work to be completed and the road reopened as soon and as safely as possible.
The costs for the work are being fully met by Jones Bros. Cambridgeshire County Council will not accept ownership of the bridge until the remediation work is addressed.
