Council takes steps to address concerns over poor street lighting next to major works in Peterborough city centre
Peterborough City Council has taken steps to address concerns over a lack of street lighting next to the Queensgate roundabout works in the city centre.
The Cue Club, located on Cowgate, next to the major works to transform the roundabout, had raised concerns about the lack of street lighting that was damaging their business and deterring people from coming down Cowgate late at night.
In an open letter to the council, the management stated: “This is not only a safety issue, we as a business have been losing valued custom for an extended period of time as a result of this.”

The council had confirmed that it was looking into concerns and has now stated that amendments have been now made to the lighting, which will allow the problem raised by the business and councillors to be fixed and ensure that the lights remain on throughout the evenings and night when it is dark.
Councillor Numan Ali Iqbal, cabinet member for growth and regeneration at Peterborough City Council, said: "We put in additional street lighting at the pedestrian diversion near Cowgate earlier this month. These lights have a sensor to turn off when it gets lighter (ie daylight). We thank the Cue Club for informing us that the nearby lighting from local residents are triggering the sensor to turn the street lighting off. We have confirmed in writing that we will be switching them to manual override, which should stop this from happening and will ensure they stay on throughout the night."
