Conversion of football pitches at Peterborough's Powerleague into padel courts approved
Plans to convert two football pitches at Powerleague in Peterborough into padel courts have been approved.
Powerleague, located on Whittlesey Road in Stanground, currently has six five-a-side pitches and two seven-a-side football pitches.
Two of these six-aside pitches (the two closest to the site border with Stanground Academy) will now be converted into padel courts complete with associated enclosure boards, synthetic playing surface and lighting.
Powerleague has stated booking data from the last 12 months indicated a reduction in its bookings for the five-a-side pitches means that they could all be accommodated within four pitches instead of six.

Peak periods are defined as 7-10pm Monday to Friday.
The application stated: “The outdoor pitches can be used to facilitate padel use to growing demand in this locality and to enhance and diversify the proposed provision of sports facilities on this site, through the provision of four new state of the art Padel tennis courts.
"Across our estate of 27 courts in 7 locations, Powerleague welcomed more than 32,000 unique players in the past year alone - demonstrating strong and growing community engagement with our facilities.”
The conditions of the approval state that the courts can be used between 8am and 10pm only.
