Your chance to help Peterborough children in need this Christmas with Giving Tree

A special ‘Giving Tree’ has been set up in Peterborough – to make sure children in need have presents to wake up to on Christmas morning.

Peterborough City Council has teamed up with the charity Barnardo's for the third year in a row to put a Christmas Giving Tree up in the reception area of Sand Martin House.

From 3 November until 4 December, people can head to Sand Martin House in Fletton Quays and use the tree to help donate gifts to children in the Peterborough area.

To take part, simply take a name tag from the tree and buy a present (or as many gifts as you would like).

Bring the unwrapped present back to reception, and it will be collected by the Barnardo’s team, who distribute the gifts to local families in time for Christmas.

Councillor Katy Cole, cabinet member for children’s services for Peterborough City Council, said the scheme would help everyone have a magical festive season in the city this year.

Cllr Cole said: “Christmas is a magical time for many of our residents, but especially the city’s young people. The Giving Tree is the perfect way to make the celebrations as special as possible and ensure children who are less fortunate have something to look forward to this December.”

The charity receives referrals from other charities, children’s social care, health visits, midwifery, targets support, preschools, nurseries, schools and family support workers to ensure presents will go to families in Peterborough who need them most.
