Wisbech Town Cricket and Hockey club celebrate opening of £2m state-of-the-art pavilion
Wisbech Town Cricket & Hockey Club has officially opened its brand-new Pavilion in front of more than 300 members, past players, sponsors, supporters and friends of the club.
The ribbon was officially cut by Club stalwart Jane Peggs, whose longstanding commitment has been instrumental in the transformation project, marking a very special moment in the club's history.
After years of planning, fundraising, hard work and support from across the community, the new pavilion - a significantly larger, more accessible and future-ready home for both cricket and hockey - was unveiled in front of Members and invited guests looking suitably smart in Club ties and summer dresses on Sunday September 7.
The club has been delivering a major transformation of its facilities at Harecroft Road in Wisbech. Following the successful refurbishment of the hockey pitch in 2023, the Pavilion is the second phase of that vision.

The new facility will provide:
• A modern bar and catering facility to support Club events and community use
• A welcoming social space for members, families and visitors
• Greater accessibility for all ages and abilities

• Improved changing facilities to better support cricket and hockey
• Enhanced capacity to host wider community events and strengthen junior development pathways
Harriet Esser, WTCHC Hockey Club: “I’m incredibly excited to see the next generation of Wisbech Town Cricket and Hockey Club come to life. This new Pavilion is about so much more than just a building; it represents an exciting new chapter for our Club, our sports and our community. It’s a place where hockey and cricket can grow together, where people of all ages can feel welcome, and where we can create a real home for generations to come.”
Chris Clark, WTCHC Cricket Club: “I am absolutely thrilled with the new Pavilion, which is the result of the hard work of a wonderful community of people. We have created a legacy that will be enjoyed for many years to come; where people can play sport, enjoy companionship and friendship and get involved in community spirit.”
The Pavilion opening marks a major milestone, but the club's Lasting Legacy crowdfunder remains live to finish the project to the highest standard.
The total pavilion project is £2.03 million, with £1.785 million already secured and a current Crowdfunder target of £50,000. The campaign has now been extended to 30th September 2026.
Funds raised through this final phase will ensure the Pavilion opens fully fitted, fully functional and ready to serve the whole Club and wider community.
The crowdfunder is specifically focused on completing the kitchen and bar fit-out to a commercial standard, internal furnishings and social space - some of the most important elements needed to bring the pavilion to life.
Every pound raised will go directly into completing and equipping the new pavilion. Donations of £100+ can be recognised on the club's Lasting Legacy Donor Wall.
Priority focus also includes internal furnishings and social space completion, alongside supporting elements including external works, car parking and access, equipment storage and furnishing the new patio area.
The Crowdfunder is live here.
