US President Donald Trump’s ‘doomsday plane’ was spotted flying low near Peterborough over the weekend as it prepared to land at a Suffolk airbase.

The Boeing 747 E-4B flew directly over Bourne and Crowland en-route to RAF Mildenhall, touching down at 7.08am on Saturday morning (September 12).

Nicknamed the ‘doomsday plane’ the E-4B "Nightwatch" serves as the National Airborne Operations Center and as an airborne command post to maintain US government continuity during extreme national emergencies.

The plane’s weekend stop at RAF Mildenhall coincided with Trump’s two-day visit to Ireland.

One of the US government’s four E-4B aircraft always acts as support to Air Force One on both domestic and overseas visits, often landing at an airbase in the vicinity of where the President is stationed.

At 8.24pm on Sunday (September 13), the E-4B departed Mildenhall for Omaha, passing over Wisbech as it made the journey back to the US.
