Warning after Peterborough residents targeted by ‘People’s Postcode Lottery’ scam - here’s what to look out for
A resident was told that they had won £385,000
Peterborough City Council has issued a warning about scam letters after a resident was told that they had won £385,000 on the People’s Postcode Lottery.
The resident reported the incident to the Council after receiving a letter claiming they had won £385,000 after being “randomly selected” from the UK electoral roll.
Scammers often use fake prize claims to encourage people to make contact, only to ask for fees or personal information.

The warning comes a matter of weeks after our sister site, the Northamptonshire Telegraph, reported that a Corby man had received a similar letter saying that he had won £385,000 on the People’s Postcode Lottery.
Ian Bateman ended up calling the scammers himself and giving them a piece of his mind after recognising the letter as a fake.
If you are unsure about any communication you receive, you can call the Postcode Lottery on 0808 109 8765.
