Volunteers sought for new community fridge in Orton, Peterborough
Volunteers are currently being sought for a new community fridge in Orton.
Orton's Green Councillors have been working with charity Mary's Child- based at The Goldhay Centre and the Nene Valley Hodgson Medical Centre to create and establish a Community Fridge in Orton.
The Community Fridge will be based at the Nene Valley Medical Centre on either a Monday or Friday.
Organisers are busy organising food donations and support from businesses and have appealed for anyone who would be able to support this work to get in touch.

Volunteers are also being sought to be drivers for food collection, to date check and sort food, to support giving out food and to greet the public.
Cllr Nicola Day, Orton Waterville Green Councillor said: “This is an important community project that will help allocate food that would otherwise go to waste and will support families and individuals who need help with the cost of living crisis. In an ideal world people should be able to afford to feed themselves and their families, however, we know we are living in difficult times with the cost of food continuing to rise.
“The Community Fridge based at the Nene Valley Hodgson Medical Practice will be open to everyone and is intended to be a ‘good for people and planet initiative’, increasing access to food and reducing food waste. The project is supported by Mary's Child, a charity who have expertise in community outreach and food poverty.”
Cllr Heather Skibsted, Orton Longueville Green Councillor said: “This is an important community initiative which will support all residents in Orton. Working in partnership with the Medical Practice and Marys Child means this will be a sustainable and accessible Community Fridge.”
