Upcoming road closures to impact four villages around Peterborough

Motorists who often drive to or from Peterborough’s surrounding villages are being urged to consider alternative routing over the coming weeks.

With the city council set to carry out comprehensive maintenance works at various locations, no fewer than four villages: Helpston, Lolham, Barnack and Ashton, are set to be affected by road closures towards the end of May.

Maxey Road in Helpston is set to close on May 30 to accommodate “proposed works being executed on the above road.”

The maintenance works being carried out will be focused on the railway level crossing so the section of road that will be closed is at Maxey Level Crossing (20 metres either side of it).

It is anticipated that the works will take place overnight only between 10.15pm on May 30 to 8:40am the following morning (May 31). Actual closure dates will be confirmed locally on site.

Drivers looking to divert should use the following routing: B1443 Glinton Road, Helpston Road, A15, Maxey Road, and High Street (and vice versa).

Lolham

King Street at Lolham, near Maxey is set to close overnight on Sunday May 24.

Once again, the maintenance works being carried out will be focused on the railway crossing so the section of road that will be closed is at Lolham Level Crossing (20 metres either side of it).

It is estimated that the works will take place between 12.01am and 8:30am on May 24

The suggested alternative routing for affected drivers is: B1443 King Street, West Street, Glinton Road, Helpston Road, A15, Maxey Road and High Street.

Barnack

Mill Road in Barnack is set to close on Monday, June 1 in order to allow remedial works to be executed on the above road.

The stretch of road that will be affected is the junction of Mill Road and Heath Road.

While actual closure dates will be confirmed locally on-site, it is anticipated the works will take place between Monday, June 1 and Wednesday June 3.

Ashton

More remedial works, this time at Bainton Green Road at Thatched Cottage in Ashton.

The proposed order will come into force on Tuesday, June 2 and is likely to remain in place until Thursday, June 4.

Actual closure dates will be confirmed locally on-site.

Affected drivers can make use of the following diversion: Bainton Green Road, Helpston Road and Ufford Road (and vice versa).
