Torrential rain creates dangerous driving conditions across city
Downpours make driving difficult – and potentially dangerous – for Peterborough motorists
After months without a drop of rain, Peterborough has been hit by an unrelenting downpour today (Thursday, August 27).
From mid-morning onwards, the skies released a torrent of uninterrupted rainfall which quickly created treacherous driving conditions on the city’s roads.
Fletton – most notably at the western end of the High Street – was awash with pooled water, with traffic forced to ply through long rain trenches as it entered London Road.

Woodston was even worse hit, especially under the bridge at the junction of Celta Road and Morley Way, where deep water caught out motorists who tried their luck and ended up stranded in deep water.
North of the city, severe pooling at the side of the A15 saw perfect aquaplaning conditions take shape between Market Deeping and Bourne.
Local infrastructure has also been hit hard, with supermarkets and shops in Eye, Orton, Serpentine Green and Market Deeping closing due to flooding.
