The Yard of Ale is Peterborough's Pub of the Year

It’s a family run pub and a nice place to unwind, but it is the beer on tap that has earned The Yard Of Ale the title of Pub of the Year from Peterborough’s CAMRA members.

The Oundle Road pub, run by Angela Hopkin and husband James since 2017, was named both the City Pub of the Year and the overall Peterborough CAMRA Branch Pub Of The Year for 2026 after the recent round of voting.

And it is the fact that it was members voted which meant most.

“We are a family run pub for the past eight years and we are delighted that so many local ale drinkers voted for the Yard of Ale, against so many other great community hubs,” said Angela, “it means so much to us.

"Although we have been here for a few years we are constantly learning and striving to improve our pub and make it the best it can be.”

With a great degree of success, it would seem, given these latest accolades.

“We work extraordinarily hard at keeping as wide a range of cask ales as is possible with the support of our patrons,” Angela added. “We mix a combination of Locales (ales from local breweries) with new ones (occasionally with experimental hops) and national champions. We also offer high pressure craft beer, lagers, ciders and stouts; a total of 21 taps in total.

“The Yard of Ale takes pride in offering a nice place to unwind and listen to some live music over the weekend and watch Premier League football and other sports on Sky Sports and TNT or simply have fun with their friends. We are most sincerely grateful for the award and we look forward to seeing you all for a pint soon.”

Steve Bersey, the Chairman of Peterborough and District CAMRA, said: “We were delighted that the Yard of Ale on Oundle Road was chosen by the members of the Peterborough & District Branch of CAMRA as our Pub of the Year in the city category, as well as the Branch Pub of the Year for 2026.

“The venue is very popular and offers a great selection of cask ales. I would like to congratulate the management and staff on their achievement in winning both of these awards.”

The branch’s other awards say The Blue Bell, Maxey, named Rural Pub of the Year, and The Ship Inn, March, named Town Pub of the Year.
