Construction of the city’s new state-of-the-art Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) continues apace.

Peterborough's newest NHS healthcare facility – which is located on Wellington Street in Eastgate – is taking its final steps towards opening later this year.

Along with cardiology and respiratory diagnostic services, the new North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (NWAFT) facility will boast CT, MRI, Dexa, X-ray, ultrasound and fibroscan capabilities.

With many works within the building now entering their final stages, the Peterborough Telegraph was invited in to see how the part two-storey and part three-storey building as a whole is shaping up.

While the facility as a whole is “nearly there”, there were still plenty of “things to be done,” acknowledged NHS Operations Manager, Nicola McNamee.

“The doors, the finishes, ensuring we have all the equipment on the building and then it will be the outside of the building to be done,” she said.

In terms of a finish date, Ms McNamee said: “We aim to be open for this year.”

The new CDC will replace the disused City Health Clinic, which was demolished.

Describing the new facility as “fantastic,” Ms McNamee said the benefits to Peterborians would be many and evident:

“They get to access diagnostic care right on their doorstep… and it will reduce the throughput through the hospital.”

Ms McNamee observed that, once opened, the centre will help patients get seen quicker by doctors and consultants:

“The additional workforce should reduce our waiting times,” she said.

“It’s really, really exciting for the people of Peterborough.”
