Plans approved for car showroom at former Ducati Peterborough site

Plans have been approved for a car showroom at a prominent site near Peterborough.

Hannah Guze of E&R Automotive applied to Peterborough City Council for planning permission to add a car showroom to her existing vehicle workshop which she runs alongside her partner Jordan.

The workshop is located next to the former Ducati building off the A1 near Wansford, which now houses an architects.

Ms Guze said the vehicle showroom would stock five to eight cars at a time.

A planning statement reads: “We are keen to take on a well presented, clean and tidy premises as we think first impressions are very important when the customer arrives to view a car.

“We also operate on an appointment only basis, so we can focus on one customer at a time, and manage space respectfully.”

The council’s case officer granted the planning application in September.

Their report stated: “The application site is an existing employment unit within the village envelope of Wansford.

“No alterations to the building are proposed and therefore the scale and impact of the proposal is considered comparable to the existing use.”

The officer decided that “no significant and demonstrable harm” would result from the development and the proposal was considered to be acceptable.

The former Ducati building, which the workshop and showroom will be located next to, was constructed in 1932 and fell into disrepair in around 2007.

It was sympathetically restored by Harris McCormack Architects in 2016 to house a new Vindis Group Ducati showroom downstairs, later named Archaus to reflect its architectural heritage.
